I can't believe it's time for the BC Highschool Cross Country Championships already. I feel like I just started working with the kids - well, I sort of did since it's only been two months. Why is it in North America we run cross country during the fall and everywhere else goes right into the spring?
Anyways, tomorrow will show just what my kids are made of.
I got a couple of hints on facebook yesterday that one of my girls hurt her foot. We ALWAYS know that when one of them gets hurt, they've done it during basketball. Sounds like it's just a strain, but still. The timing, people! If my whole girls side wasn't from the basketball team then I might be a little more pissed, but what can ya do?
Last year, one of the girls went down right at the start line. Dehydration was cited as the cause, but we all know that she's just a drama queen. Gotta love 13 year old girls, huh? We've strategically planned where she will be lining up this year so it can't happen again - big sister right behind her to kick her ass if she tries anything stupid.
I told my #1 guy to lock himself down until tomorrow morning and not do anything stupid. I got the usual, "will do". Perfect. We can always count on him NOT to play basketball!
I think I'm already a bit nervous for them.

Talk about hype.
A baseball coach at my high school cut a few players b/c they insisted on playing football. He caught a bunch of flack for it but I kind of saw his point. He was sick of scrambling when his started got hurt. Hope the girl can tough it out and run fast. Good Luck!!
I LOVED running Cross Country way way way back when. :) GOOD LUCK to your team! ha ha - had to laugh about the "no drama" with 13 yo girls. Ha! Enjoy the day and have fun! Oh - and kick butt as well ;)
I have to put Oscar on lockdown before races too - he has a way of jumping into random games and hurting things. Before our wedding he sprained his ankle so bad he was on crutches. No crutches down the ailse I told him!! HAHA!!
GOOOOOOD luck tomorrow!! Can't wait to hear how well you guys do!
I still can't believe you are a coach. It's inconceivable. Surprisingly, it sounds like you might be doing a good job. Fear is an excellent motivator. As is anger and sarcasm.
Good luck at your races.
I hope your kiddos have a great race! :)
Good luck to your kids tomorrow. Wish I could be there, but I won't find out until tonight whether there is room. I am not counting on it at this stage, so I will be there in spirit. We'll have to meet up another time.
k nevermind, one person backed out so we are no longer sending a full boys team. Wow talk about disappointing, but at the same time, it looks as though I might be over there. Facebook you after I get off work. ;)
gooooooo kids! i'm sure they will do well just because of the coaching and super motivational tips they have received...
if not, make them run back to the school.
aaww the good ol xc days! may favorite :) i'm sure you trained them well!
The first time I raced cross country in spikes, the coach forgot to tell me they would catch in the ground if I slowed down too fast. I sprinted to the line, tried to stop running and fell flat on my face. Gotta love us drama queens. We keep life interesting.
ahh, brings back such good memories of my xc coaching days.
one of my favorite lines from the start line of a race: "coach, do i have to TRY in this one?"
photographer is promising wedding pics soon. . .i wouldn't mind seeing them myself; ) thanks for asking, hopefully i will pass them along soon!
